Privacy Policy

Gimmes is a utility app for photographing golf scorecards and saving your rounds. It has no user accounts, no ads, and no analytics or tracking of any kind. This page explains the data it does handle.

Scorecard photos

When you photograph a scorecard, the app first tries to read it on-device using Apple's Vision framework — that photo never leaves your phone. If on-device recognition can't make sense of a photo, that single image is sent to a Gimmes server function, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to read the grid and return the result. Only the photo that failed on-device reading is ever sent off your device, and it's used solely to read that scorecard.

Rounds and course data

Your saved rounds, scores, and course history are stored on your device and synced through your own iCloud account (via Apple's CloudKit), so they carry across your devices. Gimmes does not run its own database of this data — it lives in your private iCloud storage, governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

Location

Gimmes asks for your location while the app is in use, to help identify which golf course you're playing. Your approximate coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap's public Overpass API to look up nearby courses — no account or API key is involved, and this lookup is subject to OpenStreetMap's own privacy terms. Location is only used for this lookup; it isn't stored alongside your rounds beyond the course you end up saving.

What Gimmes doesn't do

• No user accounts or sign-in — your identity is your own Apple Account.
• No advertising, and no ad or analytics SDKs of any kind.
• No selling or sharing of your data with third parties, beyond the scorecard-reading and course-lookup requests described above.
